TYPHOON KRISTINE Typhoon Kristine, or Tropical Storm Trami, hit the Philippines in October 2024, bringing severe flooding, destruction, and major displacement across multiple regions. With over seven million people affected, the storm forced the evacuation of around nine-hundred individuals, many of whom faced limited access to clean water, healthcare, and sanitation in evacuation centers, raising concerns about disease risks.

In the Bicol region, where damage was especially heavy, officials declared a state of calamity. The agricultural sector suffered an estimated PHP 3.7 billion in losses, leaving many communities at risk of food insecurity. Educational infrastructure also faced immense damage, with losses totaling PHP 3.6 billion, which disrupted schooling for millions of students. Additionally, power outages affected hundreds of municipalities, while communication networks were impaired, hindering emergency response efforts.

Government agencies and relief organizations are actively involved in aiding recovery, but the massive scale of the damage has slowed efforts. Immediate priorities include restoring essential services and providing basic necessities like food, water, and shelter to affected communities.
