[edit]Jazz Rap? Can anyone provide a citation of the claim that De La Soul are known for their contributions to jazz rap. Otherwise, I will delete it. 146.9.240.60 (talk)Ryan —Preceding undated comment added 17:52, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

I think they got dropped (or sold?) from Tommy Boy Records before they could release the third installment. I think AOI 3 was meant to be a collection of instrumentals and remixes which the label wasn't too keen on. They released their next album, The Grind Date with Sanctuary Records. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.254.0.30 (talk • contribs) 10:53, 23 August 2005
appearances on other musicians albums
[edit]We should compile this, also. I know that they have appeared on records by Latifah, Propelerheads, Prince Paul, Tribe called Quest. Any others? ike9898 17:23, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

De La Soul and Prince Paul all met in Amityville High School. Some of the De La Souls members lived in East Massapequa as it was districted for Amityville. East Massapequa was one section of Massapequa that wasn't allowed to attend Massapequa High School. Interestingly, had some of them did attend MHS, they would have been attending school at the same time as Baldwin Brothers and Seinfield. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unlimitedspirit (talk • contribs) 02:08, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
accuracy issues
[edit]Does "De La Soul" need to be described as "spanish for 'from the soul'"? Can't that just be cut out, isn't it a bit obvious and slightly inaccurate since "soul" is not "soul" in spanish? Also, why are they listed from Amityville in the Article and East Massapequa on the sidebar? --MrGears 18:41, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- I wondered if it might be a play on "De La Salle". -- Gyrofrog (talk) 01:36, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
Is there any support anywhere for the claim that De La Soul is releasing an album in 2009? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.188.51.191 (talk) 03:05, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Hello, The singles part of the artical is wrong. Plug tunin' was the first 12" and Jenifa (Taght Me) was the second single before the lp was issued. Jenifa (Taught Me) was a very different version (the original version) thann the one that was issued in the u.k and the one that was on the original lp (usa and uk). Jenifa (Taught Me) did have "Potholes in my lawn" on it. I have tried to edit it but will not let change heading or singles part. Many thanks pip01tomPip01tom (talk) 13:55, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
First Serve
[edit]Why is there nothing in this article about De la Soul's side project "First Serve"?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ds6dbdOjWV8 http://www.hiphopsite.com/2012/02/01/de-la-soul-are-first-serve-pushin-aside-pushin-along/
I would include it, but usually when I try to edit a Wikipedia article my additions are deleted within hours by someone who thinks he or she knows the subject better so I will just leave this to the person who guards this article... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.24.236.140 (talk • contribs) 12:07, 5 February 2012
Tone, refs, opinion
[edit]The article is written in good, clear prose and it's well organized but it reads like an original retrospective out of a music magazine rather than an encyclopedia article. The descriptions of the albums in particular make for interesting reading but are almost entirely unreferenced, and opinion to boot. The article needs substantial improvement in each of these areas - tone, opinion / OR and references - and I've added tags to that effect. JohnInDC (talk) 03:26, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- I've been going through the article and taking out the worst instances of laudatory language and editorial synthesis. I really should be stripping the thing down a lot more given the utter lack of supporting citations for - well, really anything - but it seems a shame to gut what is otherwise a fairly informative, if personal POV article. I am not a real student of the hip-hop genre and am a bit at sea when it comes to figuring out where to source a lot of this stuff and could use help from other editors in beginning to source up this article a bit. Any improvements are welcome! Thanks - JohnInDC (talk) 22:47, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Associated Acts?
[edit]Hi. I'm an infrequent editor, though a big fan of this group since the first two albums. I am confused and put off by the "associated acts" section. Maybe this is the norm for musical wikis, but it seems kind of ridiculous to make this list of every band they ever recorded a track or two with. Rap groups in particular collaborate all the time. The Native Tongues are definitely part of their origin and milieu. Gorillaz maybe because of the huge success of Feel Good, but Snoop Dogg? The Beastie Boys? Many are super questionable. Plus there is no citation for these additions, so it feels like a free for all. I'd delete most if it wouldn't just be undone. Waronmugs (talk) 05:12, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
