Welcome to the Perth project of WikiProject Western Australia!

Some Wikipedians have decided to better organise information in articles related to Perth.

This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

Also visit the Australian Wikipedians' noticeboard for collaboration on Australian articles in general.

Scope

[edit]

This project aims primarily to cover articles about Perth, the capital city of Western Australia and Australia's fourth-largest city. It has many places of interest, significant events and interesting people that have helped form the unique character and style of the city.

History

[edit]

WikiProject Perth originally came into being on 3 March 2005 and was initially heavily focused on public transport. As time went on and the project membership expanded, a demand was created for a wider scope, and on 17 December 2006, WikiProject Western Australia came into being through the work of several Perth Wikipedians. It was blindingly successful; several meetups and featured articles were soon to follow, and other states followed our lead.

Throughout 2007 and early 2008, however, the Perth project had become essentially dormant, and on 26 March 2008, it became a task force of the project it had originally spawned. There were two views on this — one was that the project had served the community with distinction but had reached a natural end; the other being that a need for it still existed and that it may well return to full production.

In January 2011, following the Wikipedia 10th Birthday meetup (and the WP WA 6th meetup) in Fremantle — consensus was that work on improving articles to do with Fremantle might work under the banner of this task force.

In February 2017, the Perth group (a branch of Wikimedia Australia) its 10th anniversary.

In November 2017, the Task force was relegated to archives as the project is re-launched.

In January 2020, the Perth Project was restored for assessment - in time for the Wikipedia Day event
