"Lower-middle income"?

[edit]

In the introduction to the article, Vietnam is listed as a "lower-middle income" country. This contradicts Wikipedia's own "economy of Vietnam" page, which provides ample evidence that it is actually an "upper-middle income" country (33rd by GDP, etc). The description is either out of date, a typo, or ideologically motivated; at any rate it should be changed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.252.21.54 (talk) 16:00, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Religions

[edit]

The information in the "Religions" is incorrect. The number of Buddhists is about 14.9% population, compares to 8.5% population of Catholicism (year 2019 data), here is a reliable source link you can check out: https://www.state.gov/reports/2019-report-on-international-religious-freedom/vietnam/

By the way, I am Vietnamese.

Yes, it seems like they are deliberately ignoring it. I contacted the Ministry of Information and Communications and they said they would look into the matter 14.241.108.214 (talk) 07:04, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My suggestion is to remove "freedom of religion and ethnic minorities" from the lead.

In the lead, "ranks among the lowest in international measurements of [...] freedom of religion and ethnic minorities" is original synthesis. In International rankings of Vietnam, there is no rankings about religions or ethnic minorities. In the linked article Freedom of religion in Vietnam, it is noted that religion has a certain level of tolerance among the population ("Vietnamese people tend to have a tolerant perception towards different religious groups, with there having been only a few cases of anti-religious violence in recent years regarding Governmental issues and/or problems") and the government ("The status of respect for religious freedom improved significantly during the period covered by this report"), which when compared to Middle Eastern countries (such as Freedom of religion in Saudi Arabia) is far from the worst. 130.245.192.6 (talk) 15:54, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 02:00, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TheNuggeteer, reliable sources do not matter when articles contradict to each other. There is certain degree of onus when you claim that the country is "the worst". 130.245.192.6 (talk) 17:37, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done While reliable sources are certainly relevant, the lead should only reflect content that is reliably sourced in the body. I've removed it, and as a general rule, we should be careful about including negative content in a lead unless the sourcing is airtight. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 16:17, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Religion demographics do NOT match sources and do not match the “Religion in Vietnam” page. 14.241.108.214 (talk) 07:01, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. If you want an edit made on your behalf, we need to know what specifically doesn't match, which sources you're referring to, and what exact change you want to make. Hi, I have a request. Regarding the climate part of this article, I want to update the image of the climate map of Vietnam. Unfortunately, because the article is locked, I cannot edit it. The new image is closer to the present because it shows a timeline from 1991 to 2020 while the currently displayed map only shows the period from 1980 to 2016. I hope someone will replace the current image with the new image, here is the new image:
